MEETING: As usual it is the third Thursday, September 18th at 7:00 PM in the Maitland Senior Center, 145 S Maitland Ave. in (you guessed it!) Maitland Directions, from Horatio and Orlando Ave. (AKA 17-92), Go West on Horatio to Maitland Ave. Then left (South) on Maitland Ave. to Packwood. Go right (West) on Packwood about ½ a block to the parking lot. Pull into the 1st driveway on the left.
Last month, Tropical Storm Fay decided to attend with her six inches of rain. Six brave souls showed up including two, Pat Dempsey and Bob McClain, making their first meeting with us. However these two are no strangers to our Club. They have worked hard on our behalf on the British Car Day. I do hope we will see them at many future meetings and events.
As I was not one of the other four, I don’t know what was discussed at the meeting. If this month’s post meeting place was not discussed, I will guess it will be at Carducci’s for pizza etc. If for some reason you will be making the post meeting and not the business part, give Al Cook a call on his Cell 407 963 5349 around 8:00 PM to find out where we will be going.
Other topics that should be discussed are the destination of the October overnighter. PLEASE give it some thought and be prepared to help us find a great destination. Also is anyone interested in attending any on the events listed below?
MG EVENT FOR SEPTEMBER: In our poll of suggestions for future events, taken last summer, one of the comments was that we should plan an “old Florida” location or event. There is no more location or event more “old” or “Florida” than one involving Alligators, swamps or Airboat rides and so our creative events committee put the pieces together and came up with our event for September: a tour on Saturday September 20, 2008, through the eastern side of Orlando concluding in a luncheon at the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp where we can partake of what they refer to as “the coldest beverages in Florida” and maybe an airboat ride into the swamps of the lower St. Johns.
We will meet for Breakfast at our East-side meeting place (the McDonald’s on Aloma and Howell Branch Road) at 8:45 and depart from there as close to 9:30 as possible. If you are running late, give Al Cook a call on his cell phone 407 963 5349. We will give our care over to some of our more experienced Tour Masters and plan to arrive for lunch at our destination at approximately 11:30. The location for you GPS folks is 8199 S.R. 520, Cocoa, FL. It’s off FL Route 50 where it crosses the St. Johns River, at the Orange-Brevard county line. The phone # of the Fish Camp is 321-632-4199. See you there on the 20th!

GOF MK. 43, SOUTH: A contract has been signed with the Plantation Resort and Spa in Crystal River, FL. for us to hold GOF, Mk 43, South on the weekend of March 27-29, 2009.
Chairman, Al Cook, will be releasing complete details on the plans for the event in the next month or so. In the meantime, circle this date on you calendars and plan to be there to join in on the fun.
ROAR N’ SOAR – FANTASY OF FLIGHT, Polk City, Florida. November 8 - 9, 2008. Great fun coming again this fall with the 2-day car show & Jaguar (JCNA-sanctioned) slalom. Online apps now being taken. It's a good idea to sign up early and get the discounts. Slalom spaces will be limited, and we will be running our course at the new hangar this year.
Check out the online pages. You'll love the slide show & video....and may recognize your car from last year! http://fantasyofflight.com/roar-n-soar/land/
George Pardee ran the slalom last year. He says it is low speed (1st or 2nd gear), but very challenging. The airplanes & hydroplanes, balloons, RC aircraft etc, are worth the trip alone.
I remember the days when sports car owners took great pleasure competing to see who had the best driving skills. Today they seem to compete to see who has the best paint. Try a driving event, you will thoroughly enjoy using your sports car as it was in the Golden Era.
