MEETING:  As usual it is the third Thursday, August 21st. at 7:00 PM in the Maitland Senior Center, 145 S Maitland Ave. in (you guessed it!) Maitland    Directions, from Horatio and Orlando Ave. (AKA 17-92), Go West on Horatio to Maitland Ave.  Then left (South) on Maitland Ave. to Packwood. Go right (West) on Packwood about ½ a block to the parking lot. Pull into the 1st driveway on the left.  We had a couple of people get lost trying to find the meeting last month.  The building is the second building South of the Corner of Packwood and Maitland Ave..  The parking lot entrance is off Packwood behind the building that I on the corner.   The location of the post meeting will be at The Mexican Restaurant (I don’t remember the name)  in the K-Mat Shopping center at 17-92 and Lee Rd.  (With the Cooks on Holiday, I hope someone remembers the name and calls for reservations.  Hope we see you there.  EVENT;  We will again hold our annual “Too - Hot – To – Drive – Too – Far Summer Car Show and Darts Tournament.”  As in prior years we will gather at Fiddler’s Irish Pub in Lovely Downtown Winter Park. for a Pub Lunch, throw a few darts and show off our cars.   The date and time this year is Saturday, August 23rd  at 12:00, noon.  The Mini Club has accepted the challenge from last year’s darts contest winners and they believe that they have the stuff to take on any team fielded by the MG, Morgan, Triumph or Healey Clubs.  Come and see if they can put their “point” across.  Because we will be among the first there after Fiddler’s opens, we should be able to commandeer a nice section of their parking spots for an impromptu show of our British Iron.  There is no guarantee of an award for the best of anything, but you will be sure to enjoy the company of your fellow MG and other British Car Nuts, some excellent food and drink, and enthusiastic, if not skilled, darts play.  Fiddler’s is near the intersection of Orange and Fairbanks.  Come show your car and join the fun!See you there.   EVENT PAST: The Stewarts hosted a bar b que party.  The Bar-B-que was courtesy of Sonny’s and everyone brought a side dish, which made a beautiful spread of food.  In addition to consuming everything on the table, the guys spent most of the time in Dan’s new (almost completed) workshop/garage.  There was quite a bunch of envy – however, no one offered to grab a paintbrush and help with the finishing touches.  Dan said he is looking forward to having the space to spread out and do various car projects.  Joan is thrilled that she can get her car back into the regular garage at night and when the weather is on the wet side. (I never thought of the latter as a reason to build a great workshop!)  All in all, it was a good way to spend a hot Sunday afternoon with good friends and good food. CONGRATULATIONS:  To Bill Parting and Eloise Bruce have made it official that they are now engaged and plans are progressing for the big event. They recently spent time in North Carolina visiting some of her family.  This is where Bill found the proper stone to mount in a ring to formalize the commitment.  I am not sure if Bill found the stone at one of the places where you look thru buckets of mud for gems or if he found it at a proper jewelry store.  At one time, there was talk of purchasing an MGB for her instead of a ring.  Would you believe they got a Jag. Insead? What ever the case may be, we wish Bill and Eloise a very happy future together. ANNOUNCING - GOF MK. X111, SOUTH:  A contract has been signed with the Plantation Resort and Spa in Crystal River, FL. for us to hold GOF, Mk 43, South on the weekend of March 27-29, 2009.  We had tried to secure the Lakeside Inn in Mt. Dora, but the only available date was in late May when the weather would be to hot for the event. Chairman, Al Cook will be releasing complete details on the plans for the event in the next month or so.  In the meantime, circle this date on you calendars and plan to be there to join in on the fun. For those owners who live in the area, I suggest you give serious thought to staying at the hotel instead of comminuting.  I don’t know who said:  “Your MG takes you to your first GOF.  The People are the reason you return.  Staying at the Hotel is the best way to meet and get to know the owners.    November 1, 2008 - Melbourne, FL. - Brit Bash at Wickham, A Celebration of British Motorcars" is the annual show of the MG Car Club - Florida and open to ALL British cars.
