MEETING:  As usual, it is the third Thursday, October 20th at 7:00 PM at what has become our new location, “the Cottage at Lake Lilly” in Maitland.    Directions: from Horatio and Orlando Ave. (AKA 17-92), Go West on Horatio to Maitland Ave. Then left (South) on Maitland Ave. to the curve in the road (where you have to turn to keep from driving into Lake Lilly). Turn right (West) onto Lake Lilly Drive, a restricted usage road that curves around the lake.  The destination is a small white house on the left, about .2 mile.  Park and come in.  The address is 701 Lake Lilly Dr., Maitland FL 32751.  Topics of discussion include travel plans for our October event in Vero Beach and plans for our November “Mini-car show.”

“SEPTEMBER” EVENT FOLLOW UP :  On Saturday October 1, 2011, a group (herd, flock, gaggle, … ) of intrepid MG enthusiasts converged on Indiatlantic, FL for our semi-regular October Overnighter at the Tuckaway Shores Condominium Hotel along the Beach on US Highway A1-A.  We were pleased to meet with our Good Friends of the MG Car Club Florida who locate themselves closer to the East Coast, than our folks.  It was a wonderful weekend, featuring the best weather that Florida can offer.  We enjoyed a Feast at the Clubhouse, prior to dinner and then invaded a local favorite, Meg O’Malley’s Irish Pub for dinner.  We were lucky to have room for the 26 people who came to dinner!  Had there been even one more, the Fire Marshall would have been alarmed!  (I’m sorry, that one just was too easy.)  Good Irish food, beer and live entertainment were enjoyed by all.  If you want to read more and see some photos of the event, check out the write-up and photos posted at www.mgcarclubflorida.org .

OCTOBER DRIVING EVENT:  This month’s event will be to Vero Beach on October 29, 2011 to join our friends in the MG Car Club Florida for their annual Brit Bash!  Again we will find ourselves in the same situation as with last month’s driving event where our group will be traveling to a distant location from many starting points throughout Central and East Florida.  To make matters worse, some of us will want to take advantage of the hospitality of the MG Car Club on Friday night, October 28, 2011 at the Host Hotel, the Springfield Suites by Marriott, just 2 easy miles from Saturday’s Show Location, Riverside Park.  There is a dinner for a modest price on Friday, but you should call or message the event Chair, Danica Perhacs at 772-770-0083 or britbash@comcast.net to make sure that “there is room at the table.”

Under the circumstances, we will leave the group driving arrangements to the individual drivers and suggest that we coordinate small groups with similar schedules and wishes at the Monthly Meeting on the 20th.

LOOKING AHEAD: November’s Driving Event will be our __?___th (no one knows exactly, but a long time)  ANNUAL FLANKEY PICNIC, Chili Cook-Off and Mini-Car Show which was, in years past, held at the home of Club Scions (word for the day!) Jim & Camille Flankey.  Last year it was held in a spectacular new venue, Speer Park in Oakland, courtesy of Oakland residents Tony and Marsha Geraci and Will Bowden.  This year again it will be at the same location.  It will be on Sunday, November 20th, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which has become our traditional date for this event.  As before, we will plan to invite our friends who drive other British makes, but who are not fortunate enough to own an MG.    Following are the directions:

Place:     Speer Park
Addres: 331 North Tubb Street
             Oakland Fl 34760
How to get there:
From Orlando And East........... Take highway 50 West through Winter Garden to County Road 545/Avalon Road. Turn right, going north on 545 to traffic signal, approx,2 tenths of a mile Turn left, going west on Oakland Ave/438 approx 1 mile to Tubb Street. Turn right on to Tubb Street, go through the Round-About, go approx .2 tenths of mile, Speer Park will be on your left.

Our own GOF South, version #46 (Mark XLVI) will be right here at the Altamonte Hilton on March 23-25, 2012.  Although it is too early to make your registration (yes, we are working on it), you can start your plans to attend by setting aside the time on your calendar and resolving to watch our website that is dedicated to that Gathering.  It is currently in process, but you can go ahead and save www.gofsouth as one of your favorite web sites.  The GOF committee is working on the program, selecting the menus and generally working to make sure a good time will be had by all.
