FLANKEY MINI CAR SHOW & PICNIC: While I'm thinking of it, I wanted to let you know that Jim & I are going on a cruise to the eastern Caribbean, leaving Sun., Nov. 11 and returning Sun., Nov. 18. The 18th is the day we would normally have the picnic, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. However, this year we would like to change it to the Sunday AFTER Thanksgiving, which would be Nov. 25, due to the cruise schedule. I wanted to let you know in plenty of time to get it in the October Newsletter, so all would know.

As another thought--what if we changed from chicken to CHILI. Coming so soon after Thanksgiving, do you think everyone's "poultried" out and Chili would be a welcome change?......I have a large roaster oven (like Jan Wager used to make her chili in) and we could have a large batch in it. If anyone else has a favorite chili recipe, they could bring it in a crock-pot and we could end up having 3-alarm, 5-alarm or even 12-alarm chili. Mine is sort of in the middle, not too mild but not overwhelming either. I'll make cornbread to go with it, so only other thing we would need would be dessert, which the attendees usually provide, in great variety. I know the chili parties we used to have at the beach were always fun, and the end of November just might bring us some cooler weather! Let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks. Camille

EVENT PAST: There was a great turnout for the Fish Fry at the home of Will Bowden. Everything went off without a hitch, except for a very small rain shower that passed thru. Before Lunch, Will mapped out a little scenic tour of the area. Quite a few took the half hour or so drive and reported back that it was very enjoyable. Al Cook was the designated person behind the fryer. He made gobs of hush puppies and some pretty tasting fried Bassa. This was complimented by a rather large bowl of boiled shrimp. Unfortunately, the shrimp was not put on the serving table with the great side dishes that everyone brought. Many had eaten their fill before the shrimp was found. Oh Well! It made a good dessert if you had room.

We were treated to an unexpected pleasure. Bev and Dean showed up with their new grandbabies Mackenzie & Tayler along with their parents Britany & James. They now are just a little over one year old. If you remember, they were born very premature last summer and only tipped the scales at about one pound. Now they are a good “normal” size and have a great personality. Everyone took his or her turn holding and enjoying them.Food, Fellowship and driving your MG. Is there a better way to spend a September afternoon?
