MEETING: As usual, it is the third Thursday, November 17th at 7:00 PM at what has become our new location, “the Cottage at Lake Lilly” in Maitland. Directions: from Horatio and Orlando Ave. (AKA 17-92), Go West on Horatio to Maitland Ave. Then left (South) on Maitland Ave. to the curve in the road (where you have to turn to keep from driving into Lake Lilly). Turn right (West) onto Lake Lilly Drive, a restricted usage road that curves around the lake. The destination is a small white house on the left, about .2 mile. Park and come in. The address is 701 Lake Lilly Dr., Maitland FL 32751. Topics of discussion include travel plans for our November Mini-car Show in Oakland and plans for our Holiday party and January over-nighter.
OCTOBER EVENT FOLLOW UP : October’s event was a cruise to Vero Beach on October 29, 2011 to join our friends in the MG Car Club Florida for their annual Brit Bash. The Host club was quite hospitable. It’s a pity that Mother Nature disapproved of something and punished us by rain, wind and generally gloomy weather. Still, the Springfield Suites was a comfortable facility and only 2 miles from the Riverside Park, a great venue for a car show. The event, like most, was “rain or shine” and I believe 40-50 cars actually showed, in spite of the weather. A wet time was had by all, but spirits were high and smiles prevailed.
November’s Driving Event will be our __??__th (no one knows exactly, but a long time) Annual Flankey Picnic, Chili Cook-Off and Mini-Car Show which was, in years past, held at the home of Jim & Camille Flankey. Like last year it will be held at Speer Park in Oakland, courtesy of Oakland residents Tony and Marsha Geraci and Will and Voyce Bowden. The event will be held on Sunday, November 20th, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which has become our traditional date for this event. As before, we will plan to invite our friends who drive other British makes, but who are not fortunate enough to own an MG. Bring your favorite chili recipe, casserole, dessert, side dish or just yourself. The Club will provide nonalcoholic beverages and implements. It is always good to bring a chair. You’re encouraged to call Tony Geraci @ 407 656-7472 to coordinate side dishes. This is a city park but the consumption of alcoholic beverages is OK. Following are the directions:Place: Speer ParkTime: 12:00 pm till ??Addres: 331 North Tubb Street Oakland Fl 34760How to get there: From Orlando and the East........... Take highway #50 West through Winter Garden to County Road 545/Tildenville School Road (7Eleven store on the NW corner). Turn right, go North on 545/Tildenville Road to traffic signal, approx. .2 mile. Turn left, go West on County Road 438/Oakland Ave. for approx 1 mile to North Tubb Street. Turn right on to North Tubb Street, go through the Round-About, go approx .2 mile, Speer Park will be on your left.
GOF 46 UPDATE: Our own GOF South, version #46 (Mark XLVI) will be right here at the Altamonte Hilton on March 23-25, 2012. The organizing Committee is working hard on all the details of this large enterprise. We are planning a New Orleans, Marti Gras Celebration in Grand MG Fashion, so if you don’t take those Christmas lights off the old MG during the winter months, leave them on – we will call them Parade Float decorations!
As in past years, the registration will be in two parts. If you want to take advantage of the SUPER DEAL we negotiated with the Altamonte Springs Hilton (only $99.00 per night for their best rooms), you can start your plans to attend by calling the Hotel directly at 407-830-1985 and mentioning that you are attending the MG Gathering on March 23-25, 2012. Our Club will be taking direct reservations for the Event and all Banqueting (Friday night’s Marti Gras Celebration and Saturday’s Awards Banquet). At the time this edition of The Octagon is going out, we don’t have pricing ready to set the registration amounts yet, but that will be announced separately, and SOON. Watch for special GOF Editions and Bulletins!
