All of you who did not go on the overnighter to Avon Park...you really missed something...For a long while now I have been wondering about the health of the citrus industry here considering how things are around here...all of those trees killed...But on the way to Avon Park we were amazed by the amount of trees there bazillions of them …all green and so healthy looking...you look down the rows and can not see the end...it was wonderful...sort of like old Orlando. And the developers seem to be few and far between...alleluia...We stopped for lunch in Frostproof at a diner called...ta da...the Frost bite...again like a picture out of the past with black and white tile and red leatherette stools...the atmosphere was great and all generations seemed to be represented...and besides that the food was good...It was only a short distance to the Jacaranda Hotel a tribute to the 20's, even the downstairs seemed to be original and lovingly taken care of including the grand dining room, which was being readied for brunch. We asked the friendly gals in back of the desk about it and they said that there would be about 150 for brunch that day but in the season 600 to 800 could come. The hotel is in good shape because it is owned by the community college and they house about 60 girls there who learn about hotels...they were not there then because they
go into Orlando on the weekends (partying). Next time we go there we will spend more time seeing some of the other sights...Sebring, Lake Wales, Chalet Suzanne (sp) and perhaps even trying to find the Frostbite again...Thanks to the Camichos the choices were really great! TTFN (Ta Ta for now) CHRISTMAS PARTY: Kathy and Al Cook will host the annual Holiday Party at their house on December 15. Hors d’oeuvres will be at 5:00 with dinner to follow. The club will provide the meat, coffee and tea. Bring a side dish or appetizer and any other beverage you may desire.
While dress is not optional, your choice of dress is up to you! I hear that some people may show up in a tux and others in a Hawaiian shirt! It is sure to be a festive occasion.
The annual Christmas gift “auction” will be held following dinner. If you wish to participate, bring a wrapped gift. You never know what choice items may appear. Someone may resurrect the lighted Christmas tree or you may have some neat MG memorabilia.
Please RSVP by December 12 and let Kathy know what you will be bringing to share on the table by email kcook@mail.ucf.edu or phone (407) 678-6814.
TOUR OF LIGHTS: In lieu of the meeting, on December 20th we will have dinner and a car tour of Christmas lights. Watch for further details. On this and the Christmas party in the December newsletter.
THE EDITOR AND STAFF OF THE OCTAGON wish everyone a festive holiday season and great 08.
