MEETING:  As usual, it is the third Thursday, May 21th at 7:00 PM in the Maitland Senior Center, 145 S Maitland Ave. in (can it be?) Maitland.    Directions: from Horatio and Orlando Ave. (AKA 17-92), Go West on Horatio to Maitland Ave. Then left (South) on Maitland Ave. to Packwood. Go right (West) on Packwood about ½ a block to the parking lot. Pull into the 1st driveway on the left.  We will discuss the British Tea held on April 19th and the results of our Road Rally held on May 9th as well as our plans for the spring and summer.

GOF FOLLOW UP:  We must have done well, since our Treasurer Paul immediately left the country (something about visiting his Brother in Holland) and wasn’t at the last meeting.  Apparently he must have had a change of heart (or ran out of money), because he is now back in town and will make a report at the May meeting.

WINTER PARK CAR SHOW FOLLOW UP: President Jim is our delegate to the Committee who will split up any proceeds from the show and will have a report, assuming the Committee has met by the time of our May meeting.

APRIL EVENTS:  (Part 1) On Sunday April 19th, Pete and Jan Burg hosted the British Car Breakfast Club Spring Tea, a tradition of the British Car Club that goes back many years.  We made this event one of our April events and it was attended by many of the MG persuasion (although not as many cars as people).  We were promised a Road Rally by Kathy Cook and Jan Burg, but the timing wasn’t good for the 19th.  We are pleased to announce that the bugs (or whatever it was) have been worked out and the Event is on, although not in time to be called an April Event!  See below.

APRIL EVENT, PART 2 A/K/A/ MAY EVENT:  Thanks to Kathy Cook and Jan Berg, we have a wonderful Road Rally scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2009.  The event started out as a contest between the MG Club and the Triumph Club, but has expanded to the entire British Car Breakfast Club group.  We will have our hands full showing them who is best!  We start from the parking lot of the Publix in Maitland on US Highway 17-92, just North of Horatio Avenue.  Please be there at 7:45 AM to receive your instructions.  We plan to send the first car off at 8:15 with cars leaving every 5 or so minutes.  There will be a mid-way stop to gather our lost members and a final stop where we will enjoy a luncheon repast.  Fill your car with gas and bring a folding chair to enhance your mid-way enjoyment.  We will judge the event by both time and accuracy.  There are questions you will have to answer along the route so you simply can’t deduce the end point and go straight there!  Everyone should have a chance to do well and everyone is guaranteed to have a good chance to have a wonderful time!  You will have “Bail-Out” envelopes for both the Mid-Point and the End of our Rally with the destination revealed to you, if you get hopelessly lost.  Bring a road map if you have to use the Bail-Out envelope. Prizes will be awarded to the winner(s) and to those who have the best stories!

MAY EVENT, PART 2:    Paul Plasschaert has volunteered to organize the May driving event.  True to our history of driving and eating we will (guess what) travel, in convoy, to Debary on Saturday, May 23, 2009 for a tour of the Debary Hall, a movie ($4 admission fee)  and afterwards, we plan to have lunch at The Swamp House Grill on the St. Johns River.

The tour will assemble at Paul and Ann’s residence at 9:30 AM for coffee and the necessary treats to supplement the already taken breakfast or for some make it their breakfast! We will be leaving at 10:15 AM.

Directions to Paul and Ann’s place: From the 436 turn onto Oxford Rd. (South) till you reach Derbyshire Rd.. Turn right. Follow Derbyshire Rd. and turn right at Wellington Terrace.  Address is 1304 Wellington Terrace…. last house on the left.

If trouble finding it call 407-331-7531 or 407-620-2931cell.

SUMMER EVENTS: Please come to the May 21st meeting armed with your best ideas for Summer-Time events that will help us keep our cars happy, but not burn us up in the Florida sunshine.  Favorite events from the recent past include lunch and Darts at Winter Park’s Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub and Pool Party/Barbeque at one of our club member’s concrete backyard pond.  Tours of car displays/museums have also provided us lots of enjoyment, in times past.  Bring your best ideas!
