Go right (West) on Packwood about ½ a block to the parking lot. Pull into the 1st driveway on the left. The location of next month’s post meeting location will be the first topic of discussion. Last month, the crew decided to return to Carlucci’s for May. Other business will include a report on last moth’s British Car Day. Hope we see you there.
MAY’S EVENT: The driving event for May is the annual Sam Mazotta memorial Poker Run. Jim and Dodie, with some help from Dean Sprague will serve as rally masters. The date has been set for Saturday, May 31, 2008. The kickoff time is 9:00 AM and we will meet at the home of James and Britany Franklin at 1389 Jecenia Blossom Drive, in Apopka. (Directions: Go north on 441 from Apopka about a mile to Errol Estates Parkway. Go right for about ½ mile to Jecenisa Blossom Dr. Go right to 1389. – (Call Bev Sprague’s Cell 407 325 8383 if you can’t find it.)
Coffee and a roll will be the first order of the day. The First Car will leave around 9:45. The route is on well-canopied roads. There will be a couple of rest stops where you will get cards and stretch if you like. The run will end in Apopka where we have a room reserved at the Catfish Place for awards and lunch. Let’s all show up to honor Sam and have a great outing with our cars.
OTHER EVENT: DRIVE YOUR BRITISH CAR WEEK CELEBRATION will be on Tuesday May 20th. We will show off our cars on fashionable Park Ave in Winter Park around 6:30 PM before and having dinner at Panullos Restaurant. This is always a fun outing. It will be held by the light of the full moon this year. Those who have attended this event in the past really had a good time. So have the strollers on the avenue enjoyed seeing our cars. Hope you will join us. Please hit reply to RSVP to this Editor by May 17th so we can make a reservation for you.
PARTY PARTY: We would like to invite the club to come down to Winter Haven for a visit and lunch Saturday, May 17th to celebrate the end of the restoration of the TD. 10-10:30ish or whenever would be good starting time, and as daughter Paige’s dance concert is later that afternoon, we need to be finished by 3:00 at the latest. We will provide drinks, munchies, food, and whatever. The game room with pinball and foosball will be available, as well as a trail through the woods, spares and tools if needed, etc. Hopefully I can get some of the local T-series people to make it as well. Will and Paige should be around for those of you that have not seen the kids for years, and we may get Paige to perform if she is so inclined! Thanks, George Butz III in Winter Haven. E-mail: geebee3@verizon.net Phones: H-863-324-0367, W-863-299-7974, C-863-206-0113. Where? 755 Lake Ned Road, Winter Haven, FL., 33884. Directions: Go south out of Orlando (17/92?), to Haines City and take FL17 (old Alt. 27) south. (US 27 is a mess with construction between Haines City and Dundee). Proceed to Dundee; turn right (west) onto SR 542. Proceed west, cross US 27. Go a couple miles; take left at the first yellow flashing light (Overlook Drive). Continue straight south at curve (the main road is a banked curve to the right past a big brick church)- be careful as this is a dangerous intersection- onto Lake Daisy Road. After sharp 90 degree right, it is the 4th house on the right (north side of the road). There will be two green mailboxes side by side- the neighbors is 813, we are 755 (don’t ask). Alternative prettier route: Turn right (west) on 544 just south of Haines City, cross US 27, take left (south) onto West Lake Hamilton Drive, then left onto Country Club road, then left (east) onto 542 (Dundee Rd), then right (south) onto Overlook, etc. Nice scenery. The house has a brick front with rose bushes out front, and a wooden fence at the east property line. The MG sign may be out as well! CAR SHOW AND CONCERT: If you haven’t anything to do Saturday evening the 10th of May,Another item for your individual consideration (as opposed to club official participation) is the Casselberry 50’s and 60’s Concert and Car Show being held this year on May 10 at the Casselberry City Hall Complex. This is an annual event sponsored by Casselberry’s Parks and Recreation Dept to raise money for their Arts Programs. It features entertainment, beer and wine sales and a show of cars prior to 1975. Registration is $15 prior to the event and $20 on the day of the event. Trophies are given for you trophy hounds out there! Attached to this newsletter is a flyer with all the details. I know it is short notice, but it sounds like a fun evening. SYMPATHY: Ours goes out to Jim, Marlene and the whole Files family on the passing of their son in law (Ashley’s husband) Marc after a long illness. Jim and Marlene have gone to Takoma Park Md. for the memorial service. From there they will open their summer cabin in North Carolina. You can drop them a note at 1699 Bairds Creek Rd., Vilas, NC 28692. EVENTS PAST: Tony and Xandra Roth hosted what has become their annual Cinco de Mayo party on Saturday May 3rd (doesn’t that make it a Tres de Mayo party?). Accommodations had to be made for those who were interested in horse racing, as opposed to horse-trading, but at the end of the event, everyone had enough of each. All guests brought delicious Mexican dishes for the table. Ann Plasschaert did a great job as substitute margarita maker in Kathy Cook’s absence. GOF – 09: Chairman Al Cook has been looking around, studying his notes from the recently concluded Gathering in Ocala and will be looking to recruit members for the 2009 Event Committee. He will present a report on what he has been up to at the meeting in the near future. CLUB SHIRTS: Dean Sprague wanted me to pass on to you that the little olde shirt maker will take individual direct orders for Club Shirts. They come in thirteen colors; the price is $26.00 each.Call 407 682 1400, or 1-800 872 3830. The website is www.carpedieminc.com. One of these should get you to a sales representative.
